DIO Implant corporation (CEO Jincheol Kim, Jinbaek Kim) conducted a survey on what people considered to be the most important factor when choosing implant surgery. In this survey, DIO also studied the change in awareness regarding the traditional implant surgery method and digitally guided surgery system.

The survey ran for two days on July 13 and 14 near Seoul Yeouido station and Cheonggyesan station. 598 persons participated in face-to-face interviews. Subjects consisted of random male and female adults over age 20.

The survey question posed to the surveyed individuals was; what they considered the most important factor when getting implant surgery?; The options given were -implant product brand, medical staff, surgical method (analogue vs. digital), cost of surgery, average days of treatment and hospital visits. Have to add all the questions asked in exact words used. In order to study the preference regarding implant surgery and change in awareness, the question was asked once before they were provided information about the factors above for each type of surgery, and once again after they received information.
DIO did not disclose itself as conducting the survey in order to ensure transparency and credibility.

For the first-round of the survey before the respondents were provided any information, the highest number of respondents consisting of 50% (299 persons) of all participants answered that ‘Dental hospital / Dentists’ was the most important factor to consider when getting implant surgery.
‘Surgical method’ came next at 26.9% (161 persons) followed by ‘cost of surgery’ at 17.4% (104 persons), and lastly ‘implant brand’ at 5.7% (34 persons).

The percentage of respondents who selected digitally guided flap-minimal surgery increased from 37.6% to 64.5% (386 persons) being the most selected answer, after they received information about the surgery.
‘Hospital / dentist’ came next at 21.6% (129 persons), followed by ‘cost of surgery’ at 9.5% (57 persons), and lastly ‘implant brand’ at 4.3% (26 persons). When asked about the rationale behind changing the decision based on the new information provided the response was that they chose this option because the surgery seemed to ensure less morbidity, minimal pain and fast recovery.
Also, out of the respondents who already experienced implant surgery, some said that they would have chosen digitally guided flap-minimal surgery for their treatment if they had the information in advance.

DIO corporation concluded that “through this survey they were able to learn that although the reputation of dental hospitals and dentists as well as surgery costs were considered to be important factors for decision making when considering implant surgery, providing a surgical method which is minimally invasive to be the number one choice when empowered with the right information. The survey was also able to determine find that people believe it is important for the medical staff to provide patients with adequate information and options so that they can make an informed decision on which type of implant treatment to undertake.”
